Field Days: Search for a Sustainable Feast
Nov 6, 2009 - Jan 31, 2010
Exhibition on Jonah Raskin's newly released book with photographs by Paige Green.
Jonah Raskin, Professor and Chair of Communication Studies at Sonoma State University, spent a year working at Oak Hill Farm in Sonoma County and wrote a book about his experiences called Field Days: A Year of Farming, Eating and Drinking Wine in California.
This exhibition revisits his experiences and revelations alongside the photography of Paige Green. In the book Raskin documents Oak Hill Farm and its emphasis on local, organic, sustainable agriculture. Oak Hill Farm and the people who work its fields illustrate contemporary attitudes toward food and the production of food. Raskin interviewed farm workers from all over Sonoma. Each of the subjects has a different story to tell, but they all share a close relationship to the land, their animals, and with those who buy their produce.
