Momentary Perch
Apr 28 - Jul 15, 2007
Sonoma County artist Rene Carriere presents an evocative installation of papier mache birds made from shreddings of The Press Democrat (Santa Rosa, CA) newspaper. Carriere delicately sculpts layers of torn newspaper, using only a thin paste to shape vulnerable forms of fleeting nature. The colors in her work derive directly from the colored ads randomly present in newspaper print and appear like painted signature avian markings. It is not, however, the particular species of bird that is of much concern to Carriere. It is her ability to communicate aliveness through impermanent materiality that is her fascination and inspiration.
