March 16 - May 1, 2005

Magma Chambers
Installed in the Sonoma County Museum lobby - this series of geological columns filled with a mixture of hollow glass spheres and ground glass pigments and set in motion by injecting air, produce beautiful and varied flow patterns. Each of these geological process "paintings" varies in color and activity and is evocative of the underground movements of the earth.

Digitized Field
Internationally renowned, local artist Ned Kahn was selected from a competitive pool of candidates to create a public art project at the SBC building at 516 Third Street in downtown Santa Rosa.Kahn’s project now installed on the SBC site is entitled Digitized Field. An ever-changing beacon for the city, this extraordinary sculpture draws its energy from the wind and light to create an on-going kinetic response to the elements around us. Santa Rosa’s Art in Public Places Committee with SBC have coordinated efforts to present this extraordinary public art. This project contributes to strengthen community image, for the enjoyment and enrichment for all residents and visitors alike and will increase Sonoma County's draw as a cultural destination.
