mission
Sonoma County Museum
The Sonoma County Museum (SCM) is a private, non-profit museum for art and history with broad community support. We are the only museum of California’s North Coast region to present a comprehensive array of exhibits, education and public programs, and to hold a significant collection of over 22,000 artworks and historic objects.
SCM is a vital part of Santa Rosa’s downtown arts district, engaging youth through exhibits and education programs, and strengthening the community by building bridges with local businesses and government. In 2009, the museum served 27,000 visitors and over 700 museum members. The museum is a Smithsonian Affiliate.
MISSION
The Sonoma County Museum celebrates and interprets the region’s rich history, art, and culture by exhibiting and collecting relevant objects and artworks, by serving as a vital community gathering place, and by inspiring visitors with dynamic experiences designed to engage, educate, and enlighten.
