Volunteers
The Sonoma County Museum is looking for motivated and engaging individuals who are looking to interact with the public. The Museum provides the opportunity to meet interesting people in the community at our exhibition receptions, assist with the installation of exhibits, interact with artists and speakers at our lectures, assist kids with crafts at our family days and help sustain our vibrant and diverse artistic community through front desk and museum shop service. Front Desk: Front Desk volunteers greet guests, run the front desk and gift shop cash registers, and answer basic questions about the museum's history and exhibits. Front Desk volunteers also help with day to day tasks at the museum from answering phone calls to basic office work as needed. Applicants should possess basic computer knowledge, be friendly and outgoing, enjoy talking to guests of diverse backgrounds, and be able to volunteer six hours a month. (two 3 hour shifts)
Docent: Docents are responsible for leading tours of the museum and its collections, speaking about the current exhibitions, working with other docents and the education assistant to improve their touring skills, and engaging in continuing education activities and programs at the museum.
Exhibit Installation: Exhibit installers work with the Museum's curatorial staff on all aspects of gallery preparation. Must be willing to work long hours during short periods of time throughout the year and able to paint, lift 20-30 lbs, and follow instructions.
Office Work: If you would enjoy spending a few hours in our office once a week, we could certainly use the help. It's a great chance to brush up on office skills including filing, using the copier, and basic computer skills. This is a great way to help out your community, and improve your resume at the same time!
